Active recall study plan
Attempt. Check. Record one useful next step.
Build a short self-test into your revision routine, then turn the gaps you find into planned work. Use your own course questions and marking criteria.
A 30-minute self-test
| Minutes | Action |
|---|---|
| 0–15 | Answer two course questions without notes. |
| 15–25 | Check against your course’s answer source. |
| 25–30 | Write one gap and schedule a follow-up. |
Choose a concrete prompt
Instead of “revise genetics”, choose a task such as “explain meiosis without notes, then check three required points”. Keep the answer source separate until you have attempted the question.
Log the gap, not just a score
In Practice, record what you missed and the next action. For example: “confused homologous chromosomes with sister chromatids; redraw both stages and explain the difference tomorrow”. Your record is a study note, not an externally validated grade.
Give the follow-up a date
Add a short topic or review session to the planner. Leave time for checking answers as well as attempting them. Export an all-day .ics schedule if useful; it does not create reminders or synchronise changes back from a calendar.
